Carrie Milgram’s Tragic Fate in Power Book II: Ghost, Explained

In episode eight, Carrie’s web of lies finally catches up to her when she foolishly puts herself on the stand at Tariq’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) murder trial in place of Lauren (Paige Hurd). Tariq convinces her to do so after she realises she put one of her students in harm’s way just to cover her own tracks. During Carrie’s cross-examination with Davis Maclean (Method Man), her compromising sexual history is revealed to the jury — which includes Zeke (Daniel Bellomy), Professor Jabari Reynolds (Justin McManus), Detective Kevin Whitman (Jeff Hephner), and even Davis.

After her credibility is completely destroyed in court, Carrie pretty much loses everything else in her life — including her job, career, and reputation. At this point, things can’t get any worse for her — that is, until Monet (Mary J. Blige) pays her an unexpected visit. After all Monet’s secrets get exposed to her family and Zeke runs out on her, Monet sets out on a mission to eliminate the one person who threatens to take the last bit of family she needs to hold onto. The last thing she says to Carrie at the end of episode eight is, “If he still has you to come to, he’ll never come back to me.”

In the episode’s very last scene, a vulnerable Zeke goes to see Carrie at her apartment, hoping to find comfort. But instead, he finds a body hanging from the ceiling — presumably Carrie’s. The episode ends on that cliffhanger, so we can only assume Monet is the culprit who kills Carrie.

Following episode seven, creator Courtney Kemp teased on Instagram Live that a big death was coming. “Y’all know me. What you think I’m gonna do? Come on, you know,” she teased. Another dead professor turning up in the midst of Tariq’s trial can only hurt his chances of beating his case, but we’ll just have to wait and see how the remainder of the season plays out for him and everyone else connected to this new homicide.
